Architecture – Education – Resources
»Perhaps it’s inevitable that we must massively change society and its approach to our education system, and the importance of the school building, and learning environments, will increase with this shift.«
Federal President Gauck
The new High School embodies this spirit. Innovative educational approaches and a participatory planning culture formed unusual spatial structures, ambitious ecological goals guided the construction, and practical and inspirational ideas formed the architecture. Builders and sponsors, users and planners, specialists in construction law and technical trades document the development of the building, alongside plans and photographs.
The “Schmuttertal-High School” was awarded the “Sustainable Building” DGNB Prize in 2016, which is awarded by the German Sustainable Building Association (DGNB e.V.) and the German Sustainability Award Foundation (Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis eV).
