Pushing the Boundaries of the Imaginable

Our applied research is focused on the practice of building. We see it as our contribution to a future-oriented society in the field of architecture and to the sustainable design of living spaces. Therefore, we do not rest on our extensive experience, but instead we see it as a solid foundation for our commitment to step away from conventional approaches and enthusiastically pursue pioneering developments with a spirit of discovery.
In modern architecture, construction practice and scientific research are deeply intertwined. Building puts new knowledge into practice while continuously expanding the collective understanding. Our practice, particularly in timber construction, has always had an empirical, research-driven component. For example, in the evolution of carpentry – from element and panel construction to today’s hybrid systems or in the development of sustainable building ranging from passive solar energy use to passive houses and life cycle analysis.
